Prague Pedalers Press Release

Leah:

Local Cyclists Bound for Central Europe
They call themselves the Prague Pedalers. On September 2nd six Cook County bicyclists will stuff their bikes in boxes, pack up tents and sleeping bags, and fly to the Czech Republic to begin a six-week cycling and camping adventure. Beginning in Prague, the group will bike primarily along a network of trails and quiet roads, visiting historic villages, medieval castles and monasteries, exquisite vineyards, and national parks and preserves in some of Europe’s most beautiful landscapes. Taking a left when they reach the Danube River, the team hopes to eventually end up in Budapest.

The Pedalers day-to-day itinerary is virtually nonexistent. “We’re not quite sure where we’re going or when we’ll get there”, said one member. They will spend the first few days in Prague re-assembling their bicycles and seeing the sights, and a weekend at the Znojmo Wine Festival in Moravia. (The celebration recalls the year 1327 when Czech King John of Luxembourg and his wife Elisabeth of Bohemia and the royal court arrived in Znojmo and peaks with the transfer of the city charter and punishment of rogue winemakers.) After that? Who knows?
