Skirting Budapest

TIM: Since we are coming back to Budapest in a week or so, our plan was to skirt around Budapest on our way to Lake Balaton.  Easier said than done.  We spent most of the day getting through town. Since it is Maureen’s birthday we are staying at the Panzio Romantika!!

Storming the castle!

TIM: Rather than follow the main bicycle route along the Danube, we decided to climb a range hills above the river to get some better views.

We were rewarded with beautiful views of the Danube.  Along the we checked out the castle of visegrad.  Total climbing for the day was 2100 feet.  We were rewarded with a great descent to our campground in Szentendre.

Wind farms, Wine, Wildlife and Ancestry

Sue: The last two days have been a journey for Jini, Keith and I to find the hometown of my maternal great grandparents.

We had to leave the main bike route and venture south.   We biked past wind farms, vineyards and through a national park with wildlife viewing platforms.

The next day we arrived in Illmitz, Austria and found the church that my ancestors would have attended. It has been a special two days for me.

Euro Velo 6

Maureen: The EV 6 bike route extends from the Atlantic Coast in France to the Black Sea in Rumania. It’s an unpredictable mix of amazing smooth asphalt bike trails, rutted and potholed dirt tracks, low traffic roads shared with basically no cars, medium traffic roads shared with some cars, and a few parts I am blocking from my memory. Most of us have been on the EV 6 since Linz but today was Tim’s first opportunity to ride it. We had a blast!

Together Again

Maureen:  Ran into Tim today in Komárom.   After celebrating with a beer we settled into the campground of the Thermal Hotel and enjoyed our first dip in one of Hungary’s numerous medicinal hot spring spas. We wandered around the site for a while, past massage rooms, saunas, cold pools and an Olympic-sized lap pool, dazed and confused.  We finally stumbled on the outdoor hot pools and settled infor a blissful soak. All is well, indeed, very well.
